A friend was telling me about a time when she and a friend were on a hike and the temperature suddenly dropped and rime ice formed on the trees all around them. Amazing.

That is a picture of a fence post and the rime is formed on it and you see the grass/dirt in the background.

Never heard of rime frost, but when we used to live in the mountains the clay soil pushed up perfectly shaped miniature square ice cubes above the surface.
