Lisa Gluckin at Grovewood 2013
Grovewood Gallery is featuring a special display of recent works from Lisa Gluckin's on-going project "Learning to Sit — A Stand-up Tragedy.”
This display will be up October 10 through November 11. Lisa will be in the gallery on Friday, November 1 and again on Saturday, November 2 from 2 – 5pm for a meet and greet and to discuss her creative process. Visitors to Grovewood are also encouraged to visit Lisa’s studio, located next door to the gallery. On display are a collection of unique hand-built ceramic forms that celebrate color and line. These one-of-a-kind pieces touch on ideas of energy, vulnerability, trust, and playfulness.
According to Gluckin, "I spend time with my pieces, continually visiting and re-visiting — painting, drawing, carving away — adding more color and line — playing with all the possibilities until I arrive at that sweet state of "knowing" that the story is as it should be."
Lisa Gluckin is a Grovewood Studio ceramic artist and teaching artist. She teaches at the Penland School and has worked with the Toe River Arts Council in their Artist-In-Residence and After-School Programs.
Gluckin began working in clay in New York City at the Greenwich House Pottery where she studied for over ten years. She then rusticated to the mountains of Western North Carolina to immerse herself in ceramics at the Penland School of Crafts. In 2012 she completed a three-year residency at the EnergyXchange in Burnsville, NC and became a resident artist here at Grovewood Studios in Asheville.
In 2010 The National Endowment for the Arts purchased her work to honor the recipient of “The Green Prize in Public Education.” Lisa has strong creative energy with a passion for teaching, sharing and playing.
