Spruce Pine Potters Market this weekend
Spruce Pine Potters Market
October 13th and 14th
10 am - 5 pm both days
In the Cross Street Building in Spruce Pine, North Carolina
Here’s the beginning of the article about the Potters Market in this week’s Mitchell News-Journal:
The 12th annual Spruce Pine Potters Market is 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, and Sunday, Oct 14, in the Cross Street Building, 31 Cross St. in Spruce Pine.
A favorite event for many who appreciate fine craft, the Spruce Pine Potters Market is an annual weekend sale in the mountains of North Carolina, happening during the height of the fall season.
Including the work of local artists with important national reputations, this invitational market showcases the diversity of ceramics made in Mitchell and Yancey counties. From table settings to display pieces and sculpture, the range of objects presented is just as wide as the styles represented.
For pottery collectors and ceramic enthusiasts who attend the event, there is a specialness to bringing unique handmade objects into one’s home. In addition to decorative ceramic works, utilitarian pottery such as bowls, platters, mugs, and tumblers can be “works of art that are integrated into our daily living,” said exhibiting artist Suze Lindsay. She adds, “I envision functional pottery not only concerning straightforward usefulness but also, its ability to invite the user to take pleasure in everyday activities, inviting participation, promoting hospitality.”
Clay Club meets at artist studios and other locations throughout Western North Carolina, usually on the second Wednesday of the month. All potters and ceramic artists are welcome! Look for details about the meetings here on the blog or contact Amy Waller at firstname.lastname@example.org for more info.
