August Clay Club at Motyl Pottery (*with invitation to participate in firing*)
August Clay Club will be at Motyl Pottery near Burnsville from 6-8pm on Wednesday, August 14th. Thanks to Tori Motyl for hosting us! (Note to Asheville-area folks: Tori is west of Burnsville, so just about 30 minutes from Asheville.)
Tori will give a little talk about digging your own clay and she will be firing a new down draft barrel kiln she is building. Folks are invited to bring unglazed bisqueware to participate in the firing. Here are the details about the firing from Tori:
It'll probably be the first firing so people should bring pieces (unglazed bisqueware) they don't mind accidentally blowing up. Anyone who wants to get in on the firing should plan to arrive by 6:15 so we can load and fire the kiln which should take about 45 minutes according to what I read but who knows.
My hope is to get the kiln to 1800 (about cone 07) so that should be good for really any clay. Bisque temp doesn't matter because I have no idea what to expect except I would say if you are using like a mid range or high fire clay bisquing to 06/04 would be pretty standard and should do well. People can even put in greenware if they wanted!
We'll have the usual potluck, so bring food to share. Clay Club is BYOB, so bring drink, too.
Motyl Pottery is at 1082 Sweet Hollow Road, Burnsville. Google maps will get you there: https://goo.gl/maps/Wq6hVBKmgr9Gzru18
