Lecture October 13, 2011

Haywood Community College's Professional Crafts Department will participate in the American Craft Week October 7 through 16 with a lecture on Thursday, October 13 by Anna Fariello, Director of the Craft Revival Project. The lecture will be held from 4 until 6 p.m. in the HCC Auditorium. The lecture is the closing event of a series happening all over Western North Carolina - all in celebration of American Craft week. The lecture is made possible through a partnership with HCC,  Handmade in America, and The Center for Craft, Creativity, & Design.

Fariello will examine how academic disciplines and cultural institutions have assigned meaning to expressive objects over time. The talk is derived from the speaker's written chapter, "Regarding the History of Objects" in Objects and Meaning, a book she co-edited. The talk challenges today's art world vision of the arts and are sure to spark a lively debate.
