September Clay Club at Mudhoneyz Studio in Weaverville!
September Clay Club will be at Mudhoneyz Studio in Weaverville from 6-8 pm next Wednesday, September 13th. Per their website, “Mudhoneyz Studio is the working studio of Missy Batten, LeElaine Comer and Molly Walter - three potters in Western North Carolina making functional ceramic ware and sculptural wood fired work.” Check out their work on Instagram: @mudhoneyz @mogrizzles @leelainec @missy_batten. Thanks to all of them for hosting us!
Missy, LeElaine and Molly will talk about how they got together to form their studio; give a tour of their studio; talk about their Kickstarter project and how they fire, and what it’s like working together. (The photo above is from a Clay Club post about their Kickstarter campaign.) Also possibly a throwing/brushwork/carving demo if there is interest/time.
Molly provided these directions:
We are located at 65 Chambers Rd, Weaverville NC. Carpooling is highly recommended and there is a ride share right off of exit 17 if folks want to meet there. GPS will get you most of the way on Chambers Rd, but we have had some issues. Once you are on Chambers Rd stay to the right at un-labeled forks in the road. At the end of the road you will encounter a steep paved driveway, the studio is to the left.
Feel free to park in any of these three spots: The lower lot by the kiln, or the first driveway on the left halfway up the drive (studio entrance), or the second driveway on the left all the way at the top. Folks who aren't able to walk up and down a steep hill will want to park in the first driveway right by the studio entrance.
Mitchell and Yancey area folks - let me know if you’re interested in carpooling. If you’re interested in carpooling from elsewhere and/or in meeting at the rideshare spot, let me know and I’ll put folks in touch.
We will have the usual potluck, so bring food to share. Clay Club is BYOB, so bring drink too.
