Two local organizations are focused on ending hunger in our neighborhood – and they need your support! Each year, these organizations host popular Empty Bowls events to raise money for the cause. This year, we are combining our efforts to gather together the many beautiful bowls it takes to make these events possible.

What is Empty Bowls?

If you have not participated before, Empty Bowls asks participating artists to create and donate bowls for events, at which a simple and delicious meal of soup, bread and dessert is provided from local restaurants and families. Guests choose a bowl that day and to keep as a reminder of all the empty bowls in the world. Ticket sales help to fund the hunger-fighting organizations, and bring folks together for an evening of sharing and community.

Additionally, in our communities, ceramic artists are joined by wood turners, glassblowers, fiber artists, metal smiths, painters, sculptors, gardeners, and other artists and craftspeople. Last year, Shepherd Staff hosted a silent auction of donated pieces, and Dig In! Yancey Community Garden sold vases filled with flowers.
