So lucky...

to live near Roan Mountain, one of my favorite places. You should really get up to Carver's Gap soon, flame azaleas and rhododendron are in peak bloom!

Wear warm clothes if you're staying for the sunset, though. The wind whipping over Roan across the swishing grassy balds is relentless.

For a few more photos of my hike up there, check here.

We drove up to the Roan early this afternoon but it was so foggy and cold, we didn't stay long. Looks like you hit it at the right time. Your photos are exquisite!

oh my goodness. Were we all there at the same time? Funny! Your photos are beautiful Joy!
Thanks for sharing the beautiful pictures. We have never been there but maybe someday we can take our RV and see for ourselves.

i went up there Friday night, the best time to go is between 6 pm and sunset because the lighting is just right! i'm hoping to go back for a sunrise but the roan always has a huge cloud over it in the early morning.
