Understanding Glazes 

Friday – Sunday – August 19th, 20th, 21st, 2011

This workshop will be a general overview of ceramic glazes and will covers all cones. (including: pit, decals, lusters, low fire, cone 3, midrange, cone 10, wood, salt, and soda.) It is designed for the beginner to the intermediate potter. We will discuss cones, kilns, firing dynamics and principles as well as applying those principles to various firing cycles.


We will be doing a cone 10/11 reduction firing for shino, celadon, and copper red glazes. Please bring 3 – 8 bisque tumblers or cups made of cone 10 clay, (either porcelain or white stoneware) which we will glaze on Friday evening for an experimental firing on Saturday and unload on Sunday afternoon. Workshop Details
When: Friday, August 19th, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., August 20th & 21st, Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., 2011


Where: Castroville Pottery, 1215 Fiorella Street, Castroville, TX 78009.


Cost: $225 for the three days and includes the cost of firing and materials for the experimental glazing on Friday night.
