Handmade, fair trade coming to Walmart

Just a follow-up to John Britt's posting a while back about the mugs available for sale at Walmart: now they're going to be selling handmade, fair trade crafts by women artisans from developing countries. More here (hat tip to Handmade in America).

Could we please just shut down Walmart already!! What about some fair trade for the artists in this country!? Although who among us would want our work in Walmart?!?!? Great article, thanks for posting it.

So intead of artists making a pittance per hour here they can make that much less. Our cost of living is higher than any of those countries so even if we make more than them we actually make less, and what about the glaze ingredients, what's in them?

I just saw these mugs at walmart yesterday. I want to say that they are selling for 5-10 dollars.

Kind of curious about their "special glazing technique" - I'm guessing it involves some large machinery.

Great, now I can stop bashing Walmart, and pigs will fly.

Those are so UGLY! :( Such a crappy idea, in so many ways. Why don't they just practice fair trade by getting out of the import and undercut everybody else business? Or how about pay their workers fairly?

Or you can skip Walmart and support small businesses that sell fair trade items. Try Fair World Partners, http://fairworldpartners.com I started the company about a year ago and am a small business owner.-
