Call for Artists

Sharon Louden and Sol Lewit Installations

The Asheville Art Museum is seeking apprentices to help with installations from July 7 to August 8. This is a great opportunity for local artists and students to work either with acclaimed American artist, Sharon Louden, as she creates a site-specific installation for the Museum’s Artwork Project Space, and/or with representatives from the Sol Lewitt Foundation as they install Lewitt’s “Wall Drawing #618” on the walls of Gallery 10.

Sharon Louden’s installation Community will begin on Monday, July 7 and end on Saturday, July 19. For this project she will be working with strips of brushed and polished colored aluminum to create a site-specific installation, emphasizing the line, light and space of the surrounding architecture. Her installations rely on the help of a community of artists (hence the title of the project), and she is looking forward to working with local artists and students. For more information on Sharon and her work:http://www.sharonlouden.com/about.shtml

Sol Lewitt “Wall Drawing #618” drafting will begin on (or around) Monday, July 21 and finish by Friday, August 8. Artists helping with the installation will work closely with representatives from the Sol Lewitt Foundation and will make the drawing plans of Sol Lewitt a reality. See our website for more info on the artist, drawing, and exhibition: http://www.ashevilleart.org/exhibition-intro/sol-lewitt-creating-place/
