Mitchell County considers changes to itinerant merchants ordinance

Mitchell County commissioners held a public hearing on a proposed amendment to the Mitchell County itinerant merchants ordinance. One concern raised during the hearing was how this might affect artists at festivals, such as the Bakersville Creek Walk Arts Festival. Below is the current (1994) ordinance (first page) and the proposed amendment (following pages). The proposed amendment was not voted on at the meeting. The commissioners are asking the county lawyer to revise it and plan to vote on that revised amendment at a future meeting. The chair of the county commissioners said the revised proposed amendment will be made available to the public before a vote is taken. (Also available here if the pdf isn't displaying properly.)
