Recap: September Clay Club at Mars Hill University

Thanks to Shane Mickey for hosting September Clay Club! Shane told us this is the start of his fourth academic year at Mars Hill University. He gave us a tour of the department, aka Mars Hill Center for Ceramic Arts, at the end of the evening and it is pretty impressive!

Shane did a very thorough handle demo, taking us through all his steps in making handles for his mugs and also showing us how he makes tiny handles for his gnome pots. I've included a lot of photos below.

We also had a short discussion of tips and tricks. Props and thanks to Duffy Baum for sharing a tip. I shared one, too, but I'm sure more of you have tips and tricks (right?!) and I'm hoping we can maybe try this again.

Mars Hill University offers a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Studio Art and Art Education, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree with two concentrations: Graphic Design/Photography or Ceramics/Sculpture. Read more about their program here: https://www.mhu.edu/academics/majors-and-minors/art-visual-arts/

October Clay Club will be at West Union Art Studios in Morganton on Wednesday, October 9th - more details about that soon.

Thanks again to Shane, and to everyone who came!
