I just dip plates: forefinger on the foot and thumb on the rim. After setting the plate down, I dab the rim with the glaze on my finger. If I see any drip trails, I use a Japanese kanna to scrap them off.

Yes, that is how I do it too, but when your plate is bigger than your glaze bucket or when you only have a small amount of glaze this way works.

Ahhhhh...pass the plate through the glaze!! Love that! and I will be investing in toilet bowl brushes asap :)
