Meet the Maker Series 2011
Please consider attending our next talk this Thursday evening.
Writer Karin Peterson will deliver the final lecture in the Fall 2011 "Meet the Maker" series at UNC Asheville, titled "How the Ordinary Becomes Extraordinary: The Modern Eye and the Quilt as Art Form." Peterson, associate professor of Sociology at UNC Asheville, will speak at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, in Owen Hall room 302 on the campus.
Peterson's research and writings have explored how once marginalized cultural products, including quilts, blown glass and African masks, have come to be treated as fine art. Her lecture takes its title from the chapter she authored in the recent book, "Extra/Ordinary: Craft and Contemporary Art" (2011, Duke University Press).
The series is free and open to the public.
For more information, contact the UNC Asheville Art Department at 828/251-6559.
