Bees

Got two- 3 pound packages of bees Saturday.  You open the box, take out the can of sugar water (food) and then get the queen package out, pop out the cork (so the bees can eat out the sugar plug and let her out, which takes about a week), then shake the bees into the hive and put the sugar water in, wait a week and see if everything is ok.

Then you wait and watch the bees do their thing,

John, do you raise them organically?
I've been reading that the die off with bees has been with those with large holes to make bees bigger; but that organically grown and wild bees are not having the problems.

I'd love to get a hive but haven't a clue where to start!

June,

I think it is epidemic and as soon as you say you are OK then yours die too. Lots of diseases with bees!

Lot of theories. Mine died this year from cold and they ate all the food, since they needed so much energy to make heat.

Anyway, if you want I can bring a hive over when they get settled and leave it in your yard for the summer?

I'd love that John! My plum trees are flowering and the only bees around are the carpenter bees!

Next week is fine John. I think my lower meadow area would be a great spot for them. There's a bunch of fruit trees there and near the house and of course there will be all the veggies and berries near the house for them to feast on.
We need to save the bees...well, you do. I'm deathly afraid of them, myself.
