Two Day Obvara Workshop with Melanie Risch

Obvara (aka Baltic Raku) is a medieval baltic method of firing where pieces are dipped red-hot in sourdough for gorgeous surface effects.

Get to know this fun and immediate way of firing in this two day intensive. On February 16 we will explore a range of handbuilding and throwing techniques for making functional and sculptural objects like candle sticks and wall hangings, as well as how to set up the obvara slurry.
After a week we’ll fire our bisqued pieces in the raku kiln. We’ll demonstrate different effects you can get with obvara and everyone will get to try it out for themselves and leave with multiple fired pieces.

This class is open to all levels of experience. $120 or $90 for members of High Country Ceramic Arts.

High Country Ceramic Arts is located in Burnsville.
