The Village Potters Teaching Center presents the second installment of their 2018 Masters Series Workshop with a one-day demonstration workshop featuring Asheville studio potter Kyle Carpenter. The workshop will take place in their Independent Study and Mentoring Studio.
The workshop will focus primarily on developing visual interest on a clay surface, and will explore basic and complex surface decoration. Demonstration will include throwing, stamping, roping, slip application, wax resist, and painting with commercial underglazes.
As a studio potter, Kyle Carpenter works diligently to make well-crafted wares for everyday people. “As a contemporary potter, I often look to past traditions for inspiration. I’m interested in folk pottery of many origins. Simplicity in form offers a broad surface for me to embellish with lines, patterns, and drawings. It is my intention to bring together clear and abstract markings to engage the viewer to look closely at how design relates to the form of the pot.”
The Village Potters’ Masters Series Workshop are a part of their Independent Study & Mentoring Program, and are offered to artists who have been accepted to that studio, with a limited number of tickets available to the general public.
Tickets are $165 for the general public, and may be reserved by contacting The Village Potters at 828-253-2424 or online at thevillagepotters.com.
