Intermediate Handbuilding: Surface and Slabs

Let’s get the week started right! In this jam-packed series of Monday night classes, you’ll have fun expanding your handbuilding skills through plenty of cool demos and projects. Together we’ll make beautiful dishes and serving sets using soft slabs and molds. We’ll explore traditional handbuilding techniques from around the world as well as some new technologies that make design work a cinch!

Summer Glaze Dayz

Tuesdays, 6:30 – 9pm
June 1st – July 20th

Join Allie and take a deep dive into all things color! This class is perfect for glaze enthusiasts who want to gain more control of their process. We will learn the basics of glaze mixing and several methods for applying glaze. We will then explore axial systems for testing glazes as a means to create infinite colors!  We will also cover colored slips, underglazes and decals. You will learn how to create almost any effect imaginable.

Colorful Compositions

Wednesdays, 6:30 – 9:00pm
June 2nd – July 21st 

Pinching, designs, patterns, and lines! This 8-week series will be loaded with demos focusing on color, surface technique, and constructing forms. Using a combination of hand building and the and work on the wheel, we will dive into some fun research that will ignite inspiration and help you develop your personal “style”. In this course students will work with a rich, red clay body that works beautifully with  colorful underglazes, slips, image transfers and more! Join Sara and Casey as they lead you through a colorful course filled with exciting technique that bring a lively presence to your work.

Beginner Wheel with Ryan

Join our new Resident Artist Ryan Rennie for a beginner’s guide to the potter’s wheel. You’ll learn the basics in a series of fun demonstrations and gain a solid understanding of thrown forms. We will begin with centering and work our way through techniques that can be used to make cups, bowls, plates, and more! No experience needed! Each week we focus on a specific form you can make all your own.

Beginner Wheel with Shinara

Have you dreamt of making a personalized mug or bowl but feel boggled by the process?  Don’t be nervous, every proficient potter once started where you are. This class will boost your clay confidence with inspiring demonstrations, one-on-one instruction, and plenty of practice time. Through exploration of tools and foundational techniques you will be able to create distinct and useful pots. Each student will be encouraged to establish a strong skill base while also pursuing their individual interests and goals. Get ready to use your hands and make pots you can be proud of!

Amazing Glaze Workshop

Do you hate glazing? I mean, do you really HATE glazing?  Have you experienced the frustration of making a beautiful piece, then ruining it with flawed, or perhaps worse, boring glaze? Would you rather spend your time doing just about ANYTHING else, even cleaning your studio? Then this is the workshop for you! Join best-selling author of the book, Amazing Glaze, as he reveals the techniques that will help you learn to love the glazing process, achieve more dynamic results, and get your work noticed. Topics will include under and overglaze decoration, glazing large and delicate work, spraying glazes, and multiple firings. We will also examine the basics of formulating, mixing, and altering a glaze.

Mold Making: Process and Application Workshop

Want to make some truly fun work that is highly replicable? This workshop is designed with as a gentle introduction to mold making.  All skill levels are welcome! We will be covering the fundamentals of mold making and slip casting. You’ll create a variety of molds you will be able to take home and use for years to come. Topics will include wooden and bisque molds, one- and two- piece plaster molds, and mixing slip for casting.

Fun, Colorful Clay

In this camp, designed for the youngest age group, we’ll create beautiful and functional pottery forms on and off the potter’s wheel. We’ll decorate our masterpieces using colors we love and fire them so that you can use them at home for years to come. Join Kristen for a colorful and fun week in the studio!

During this fun filled week, campers will dive into all things colorful! Students will learn basic handbuilding and wheel throwing as a way to create a blank canvas to decorate! We will spend time learning about color theory, techniques for applying glazes as well as learning how to make their own custom colors! 

Find Your Spirit Animal
Ages 8 – 12

We can learn a lot from nature when we observe animals in the wild. It’s fun to observe their natural characteristics, habitats, and more. In this week of camp, we will dig into some clay and explore our spirit animals. No experience or prior knowledge of clay is necessary to enjoy creating hand-built sculptures and wheel thrown vessels that resemble your favorite animals.

Advanced Wheel
Ages 10 - 14

This is the camp for students who have taken at LEAST one camp or class at Odyssey in the last year or two that was focused on the potter’s wheel. We will move faster and have more freedom, so start sketching some ideas now and we will make them come alive!

A Bug’s Life

What do you think of bugs? Are they eww gross? Or way cool?! One thing is for certain, they are super important for a healthy planet. We can learn a lot from these little critters, and in this camp, we will do just that! We’ll dig in the dirt and watch our ideas take flight. Come on all you earthworms and ladybugs! Let’s party!

Young Potter’s Wheel Camp

Dream BIG

This week we will focus on HANDBUILDING strategies to make BIG pots and sculptures that you actually get to KEEP!  We are aiming for 1-2 foot sculptures and vessels.  We’ll warm up to proper construction methods on the first day with 1-2 smaller pieces that we will raku on the last day, and then spend the rest of the time focusing on just 2-3 larger pieces- constructing them well so they can survive the firing, while bringing those dreams to life!  Come with BIG ideas :)

The Magical and Mystical

Once upon a time, fairytales and folklores were told to explain great mysteries, share epic stories, and teach awesome lessons. Ever wanted to dream up your own fairytale? In this clay camp, we will rehash on some of our old favorites and craft our very own stories using clay! No experience or prior knowledge of clay is necessary to enjoy working on our projects together. We will hand build and use the pottery wheel in this clay camp to create functional and decorative items that tell our stories.

Advanced Wheel with Allie

This camp  is designed for students with some wheel experience who are looking to create bigger and better pieces! We will build on our basic understanding of the wheel and refine our skills so that students can create one-of-a-kind pieces. We will focus on making plates, jars, vases and even learn how to alter pieces off of the wheel!

Claying with Your Food
Ages 6 – 10

Food is something that everybody needs, deserves, and enjoys! In this week of camp, we will prepare some of our personal favorites in the clay studio.  No experience or prior knowledge of clay is necessary to enjoy hand building sculptures that resemble our favorite things to eat. We will literally be playing with our food! Students will have the opportunity to use the wheel to make a bowl or plate to serve their favorite meals. These fun exercises will get us thinking creatively about what we like to eat and get us talking about the importance of balanced nutrition.

Mosaic Madness
Ages 6 - 10

August 2nd – 6th
9am – 12pm

In this class students will focus on collaboration and teamwork to achieve a mosaic masterpiece! Students will collectively design their mosaic and will then work together to create each piece. In this class we will focus on basic handbuilding & glazing techniques that will allow students to make the mosaic but will also give them the tools to create their own works of art! This class will give students the chance to foster their own creativity while working and learning from their peers!
 
Onward and Upward!
Ages 8 - 12

August 2nd – 6th

Let’s go big! In this class, we’ll roll slabs, coil, and pinch pots so big they will blow your mind! The sky is the limit in this class, so bring your imagination and we will make your big ideas into reality.
