From Dian Magie:

It is with sad heart the clay community will mourn the passing of Judith Duff, internationally recognized ceramic artist, March 4, 2021 after battling dementia over the last few years. A leader in the woodfire ceramics she has been a mentor to many in the field of woodfire ceramics. From her studio in Brevard, NC, Judith and Royle, her husband of 55 years, welcomed students from around the country to fire with her, in her train and anagama kilns. For several years Judith hosted workshops with world renown artists in the media, who were her friends and peers, including Shozo Michikawa and John Dix from Japan, and US clay artist Peter Callas. Judith curated many woodfire exhibits in the region and throughout the country introducing the public to the beauty and process of woodfire ceramics. Judith and Royle traveled often to Japan, where Judith studied and fired with leading Japanese potters. Her work is found in collections throughout the U.S. and Japan. judithduff.com provides a full history of her work and images of her pottery. With her ready smile, gracious approach to fellow artists, Judith will be greatly missed.
