Joy Tanner will present a demonstration and artist talk on Wednesday, April 23, at Haywood Community College.


Joy has evolved a body of work that has afforded her expertise in altering wheel-thrown forms, carving, and soda firing techniques. As an avid hiker and nature lover, Joy’s Blue Ridge Mountain home environment deeply inspires her. She has been making pottery for 24 years. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Ceramics at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Joy has completed Artist Residencies at Odyssey Center for the Ceramic Arts in Asheville, NC, Watershed Center for the Ceramic Arts in Newcastle, Maine, and the EnergyXchange in Burnsville, NC. She teaches pottery workshops and exhibits her work in regional and national galleries. In 2007 Joy established her own clay studio near Penland School of Crafts in Bakersville, North Carolina.



The demonstration and talk are free and open to the public. No registration is necessary.
