Club Club Wrap-Up -- Creativity

The May clay club was hosted by Reems Creek Pottery on May 14th. About 20 potters attended and we all shared the clays we are currently using so that people could learn about available resources for this vital material in our community.

During the introduction we learned about the rebuilding of the Village Potters, and we also shared our own personal rebuilding.

The main discussion focused around the concept of creativity -- how do we jump start our creative mode after a crisis or a disaster or ..... Rachel Smith led the discussion and kicked it off by talking about a paper marbling kit she received as a present, and how she was scared to use something so new and so foreign to her. But when she finally opened the kit and played with it, she was released from doing it right, to just having fun!

We talked about giving yourself Permission. Permission to Create. Permission to Fail. Permission to make things that may or may not be saleable. Rachel then passed around cards from The Creative Whack Pack. As people felt like it, they shared what the card said, and how it pertained to them or the discussion. Then someone would have another card that would Segway to another part of the creativity challenge. There was a lot of laughter, and thoughtful discussions. BTW, you can still buy these Whack Packs on Amazon -- Rachel's deck is over 30 years old!

Good Food, Good Discussions, Building the Pottery Community and Supporting Each Other. A wonderful Clay Club Meeting.
