Howe Pottery in Brevard, North Carolina seeks a Summer Studio Assistant (note: although the description mentions ceramic students, anyone is welcome to apply).
Here are the details from Stuart Howe:
DESCRIPTION OF OPPORTUNITY: Summer opportunity for ceramic students looking to get an idea about the life and work of a full-time studio potter. Work will relate to the entire ceramic process from clay preparation to marketing and pricing. Primary tasks will include weighing and preparing clay for throwing, throwing or hand building items (depending on ability), cleaning leather hard work, transporting wares and loading bisque kilns, waxing, glazing, loading glaze kilns, assisting in firings and final sanding and pricing work for sale. Other potential jobs may include photography, social media, etc.
Applicants should expect to work hard and to learn and grow by large amounts in both hard and soft skills. Through example, repetition and critique the assistant will learn the basic tools of a studio potter. Considering this is the pilot year; flexibility and feedback from both sides will be important to make the position successful for 2017 and future summers.
