Saturday, August 24th, 11-2, Linville Land Harbor Recreation Complex
On Saturday, August 24, area potters, churches, businesses, and volunteers are demonstrating their commitment to creativity, community, and generosity: banding together to create the 6th Annual Empty Bowls for Avery. This is a fundraiser to benefit Feeding Avery Families, Inc.™, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that helps provide food assistance to individuals and families experiencing food insecurity in Avery County.
Come to the Linville Land Harbor Recreation Complex on Saturday, August 24 anytime between 11 and 2, make a donation to Feeding Avery Families, choose a unique handmade pottery bowl, and enjoy scrumptious homemade soup, bread, and dessert. The pottery bowl you select is yours to keep as a reminder of your generosity. Browse through the extensive offerings of the Silent Auction before or after your delicious lunch. Local businesses and restaurants have generously donated a dazzling variety of items: gift certificates for services and meals, as well as gift baskets and art pieces.
Last year’s event included over 500 handmade pottery bowls, created and donated by talented potters from Avery, Watauga, Ashe, Mitchell, and Yancey counties, as well as by artists as far away as Washington DC and Melbourne FL who are enthusiastically and generously supporting our cause. Approximately 125 of the bowls were created by Mickey Banner’s art students at Avery High School, and each one shines with distinctive unique artistic flair.
This is the largest funding drive of the year for Feeding Avery Families, with all proceeds going directly to this non-profit organization. Through donations, FAF purchases food from the MANNA food bank. Food donations are also collected locally from grocery stores, farms, churches and individuals, enabling FAF to distribute food to over 1,000 Avery County individuals every month.
Empty Bowls™ is a project of the Imagine/Render Group, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization in Burnsville, NC that has helped raise tens of millions of dollars for anti-hunger organizations like FAF nationwide.
