Help wanted with question on raku firing

Jan Fisher sends this question:

Asking this question for Jim McDowell. He's done a custom order for a media set...they needed colonalware from early 1800s...It's been bisque fired and then fired raku style. No glaze. Came out fine but smells like smoke. People will need to eat and drink out of it on set. We'd like to get the smoke smell out. Any ideas?
