Me, You and Raku

Create dramatic wheel thrown forms with Raku in mind and in preparation for an incendiary day of hand-on firing with Raku Guru Paul Gisondo. Students will learn faceting and how to create trapped air forms, as well as how to throw towering vases in 2 parts.  We will use tape and wax resist design techniques and glaze our work with a variety of crackle, iridescent luster and matte glazes.  For adventurous intermediate (and above) wheel throwers.

Matt’s Class: Handbuilding ABOVE and Beyond

Come experience the love of clay! Join instructor Matt Wegleitner and learn the skills needed to create decorative, hand-built, and functional pottery. Demonstrations will include pinch, coil, and slab techniques with a focus on creating interesting surfaces and unique forms. We’ll also cover the basics of glazing and firing your work. All skill levels welcome.

Colored Clay: Blends and Tests

Do you love using color in your work, but can’t always find the right underglaze or glaze? Coloring your clay is a unique and affordable way to get just the look you want! Join Allie in this fun exploration of all thing color. Using mason stains and other commercial products to create vibrant colored clays, you’ll learn basic and advanced methods for blending, mixing and testing materials. Whether you like to slip cast, throw on the wheel, decorate with underglaze or just plain love to glaze, these systems for color development can be infinitely applied to your own processes.

Levels: Seasoned Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced.

Beginner Wheel: Get Centered!

A perfect introduction for those just beginning their pottery journey and seasoned beginners who want to sharpen their skills. You’ll learn the basics of making bowls, mugs, and other functional pieces through group demonstrations and plenty of individual instruction. You’ll glaze and then we’ll fire your work, resulting in microwavable, dishwasher safe pieces you’ll treasure for years to come.

Sunday Funday: Introduction to the Potter’s Wheel

Got Sunday mornings free and want to try your hand at the pottery wheel? Seasoned beginner and looking to hone your skills? Join Kristen and dive deep into the magic of wheel throwing. You’ll learn the fundamentals of creating an aesthetically pleasing pot, the basics of surface design and a lesson on how to glaze. We will focus on the wonderful ability of clay to encourage mindfulness and attention to the present moment.

Writing for Creatives: The Well-Crafted Word

In art as in life, good writing will always win the day! That being said, many artists struggle with this important career skill. Gabriel and Shinara are here to demystify the process. We have created a laid back, but jam-packed, 5-week business class focusing on writing for artists in all media. We’ll start by showing you ten ways to dynamize your writing while covering topics like artists statements, resumes, teaching proposals, grant applications and more. Each class will feature one-on-one time with the instructors to give you feedback on your specific writing projects.

Salty and Sassy with Soul

Concentrating on soulful forms well-suited to salty atmospheric firing, this class bring the sass! Explore faceting, fluting, paddling, roping, and altering as ways to add interest and movement to your forms. This class is for intermediate to advanced students only! Muddy Makers

The process of working with clay is fun, creative, and expressive! “Muddy Makers” is great for students looking to meet other creative kids, while shaping, sculpting, and decorating projects you can take home and use. We will also get a chance to work on the potter’s wheel! Join Paige on this journey to learn the  basics of clay, make friends, and have fun in the studio!

Kiln Maintenance for Great Firings

Want to know more about your electric kiln? Maybe how to maintain it and ensure that it lasts forever? Join Kiln Tech Les Powell, trained by Skutt, for a day dedicated to all things electric kiln. Les will show you how to replace elements, relays, bricks, and wiring. He will also demonstrate a number of best practices for loading and programs that will optimize your firings. Get the insider’s view on how to maximize your kiln’s performance.

Plaster 101
Instructor: Tyler-James Anderson

Friday 6-9pm, Saturday-Sunday 9:30am-4:30pm

This workshop will  demystify the basics of mold making for slipcast objects. We will be  making one- and two-part molds that you will be able to use for decades to come. This workshop is designed with beginners and those new to plaster in mind, but all skill levels are welcome. Over the weekend, participants will become comfortable with plaster and will learn how to use the materials in a variety of interesting ways.

Amazing Glaze

Do you hate glazing? I mean, do you really HATE glazing?  Have you experienced the frustration of making a beautiful piece, then ruining it with flawed, or perhaps worse, boring glaze? Would you rather spend your time doing just about ANYTHING else, even cleaning your studio? Then this is the workshop for you! Join best-selling author of the book, Amazing Glaze, as he reveals the techniques that will help you learn to love the glazing process, achieve more dynamic results, and get your work noticed. Topics will include under and overglaze decoration, glazing large and delicate work, spraying glazes, and multiple firings. We will also examine the basics of formulating, mixing, and altering a glaze.
