RIP Steve Lloyd

Dear Friends of Steve,

Steve passed away suddenly yesterday morning of an apparent aneurysm. Becky asked me to let people know. Please let other friends know. Becky's dad and Steve's parents are with Becky and the girls. The loss is too big for anyone to fathom right now and Becky, Jesse and Austin are going to need all of our support. No plans for a funeral and/or memorial yet. I will post any details as they emerge. We have lost an incredible human being, friend, father, husband, son, brother, teacher, potter, mechanic, and sage. Hug your people. Life is unbelievably short and fragile.
-Lesley — with Steve Lloyd.

This morning I'm stunned to find out that a wonderful man has passed. Steve Lloyd briefly taught ceramics at Minnetonka Center for the Arts in MN. I was lucky to have taken classes from him. He and his wife Becky taught me their Sgrafitto technique. Steve had side-splitting funny stories about doing art shows and a possum in the back yard. He loved his wife Becky, their two girls, the band Flogging Molly, Volvo's, Mini Coopers and his many students. You had a huge impact on my career in pottery Steve. RIP you'll be greatly missed!

. My most vivid memory of Steve is the last day he and I spent together, firing the new soda kiln at HCC. I was finishing my 2nd big elk piece while we fired the kiln. It was a sweet day. He shut down the kiln and I... remember him leaning over my shoulder and his gentle voice asking me, "Will you be OK if I leave now?"
My work will continue to be a legacy to Steve's teaching. There is no doubt at all in my mind that I would never have gone in the directions I have with my sculptures and the large wall pieces if it were not for Steve. I count myself blessed to have known Steve, and to have gone through the HCC program while he was the teacher there. If I can help in any way, please let me know.
"...he gave to me a gift I know I never can repay..
I thank him for the music, and the stories of the road, I thank him for the kindness and the times when he got tough..."
