September Clay Club with Hitomi and Takuro Shibata at In Tandem Gallery in Bakersville
September Clay Club will take place Wednesday, September 14, at 6 pm at In Tandem Gallery in Bakersville. Thank you to Silvia Ferrari-Palmer for hosting us and organizing this Clay Club!
Hitomi and Takuro Shibata will talk about their pottery and how they ended up in North Carolina. Hitomi and Takuro are originally from Japan, where they established ceramic careers in Shigaraki. Their main focus is wood firings. See their work on their website, www.studiotouya.com. Takuro will also talk about STARworks Ceramics where he is the director. STARworks is located in Star, North Carolina. Here's a little about STARworks from their website:
STARworks is an arts-centered work community that promotes community and economic development by providing outstanding artistic educational programs and business ventures. We strive to engage the community with artwork and artists of the highest caliber.
STARworks Ceramics uses native NC wild clays to produce clay bodies that are manufactured with a filter press on site.
Takuro will bring samples of STARworks clay bodies for us to check out. Silvia will also tell us about her gallery which opened in April, 2016.
We'll have the usual potluck, so bring food to share. Clay Club is BYOB, so bring drink, too.
In Tandem Gallery is at 20 N. Mitchell Avenue in downtown Bakersville. Google Maps will get you there: https://goo.gl/maps/RbFWHNHhos42
