Mica Gallery Presents Featured Artists for May

Mica - A Cooperative Gallery of Fine Art and Contemporary Craft – is pleased to introduce our Highlighted Artist-Member for the month of May, Jenny Lou Sherburne. Mica also wants to welcome guest artist, Tria Turrou.

Sherburne has been a potter for over 30 years, making colorful, whimsical, functional works. Her inspirations range from “garlic cloves to onion domes, from the Land of Oz to the Isle of Crete, from Antonio Gaudi to Dr. Seuss.” Her goals are described as, “wanting what I make to reflect my ideal, that our lives can be imbued with a sense of energy and joy which grows when shared. That hope is what helps me move forward.” Sherburne is a founding member of Mica Gallery and has lived in the area for 17 years.

Turrou is an earthenware potter. She refers to her creations as “truly one of a kind as each piece is hand-decorated and painted. I use a combination of underglazes and slips as the foundation of my decoration process, then apply glazes that I mix myself over the flat color to enhance the appearance of each piece.” Turrou will be at Mica until September.

Mica is located at 37 Mitchell Avenue, Bakersville. Mica is open daily, Mondays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 12-5 p.m. For more information call 828.688.6422 or visit micagallerync.com. Follow the gallery on Facebook at Mica Gallery NC or on Instagram at micagallerync.
