DigIn Empty Bowls Needs Your Help
Call for Bowls!
Hello fellow artists! The Dig In! Empty Bowls fundraiser is now in its 12th year! We are once again hoping for your support in this event, which raises money for our work to address food insecurity in our community, uplift the message that fresh food is a right and not a privilege, and help remind our neighbors that when we share, there’s enough for everyone.
What is Empty Bowls?
If you have not participated before, Empty Bowls fundraisers bring folks together to raise money in support of organizations addressing food insecurity. At our event, guests choose a beautiful handmade bowl to take home, and receive a delicious meal of soup, bread and dessert provided by local restaurants and families. The empty bowls are a reminder of the prevalence of hunger in our world.
We ask local potters to donate these bowls (or vases and mugs) to be the center of this event. But it doesn’t have to stop at clay! We have had some donations in the past of glass and wood – any artist can participate.
Who is Dig In?
Dig In! Yancey Community Garden’s works within our community in Yancey County to grow and share from our gardens so that everyone can eat well. Our garden is a hands-on learning site to teach, inspire, and empower people in Yancey County to grow their own food, and all of the food grown at the garden is shared directly with the community. Our collaborative food sharing programs serve hundreds of families each week.
When is the event?
Dig In! Yancey Community Garden is hosting their Empty Bowls event on October 14, 2022 at the Burnsville Town Center. Check our website (diginyancey.org) and social media for more information.
How to donate
Please donate one or many bowls/mugs/vases of any material: ceramic, wood, glass, stone, etc. Generally, the bowls are soup-sized, but larger bowls are happily accepted to sell or auction for a higher price.
We invite you to place your business card in each bowl so that the final recipient can know who to appreciate and admire for all the years to come!
