Empty Bowls Call!
Hello fellow artists! The Dig In! Empty Bowls fundraiser is now in its 13th year! We are once again hoping for your support in this event, which raises money for our work to build food security in our community, uplift the message that fresh food is a right and not a privilege, and help remind our neighbors that when we share, there’s enough for everyone.
Empty Bowls fundraisers bring folks together to raise money in support of organizations addressing food insecurity. At our event, guests choose a beautiful handmade bowl to take home, and receive a delicious meal of soup, bread and dessert provided by local restaurants and families. The empty bowls are a reminder of the prevalence of hunger in our world and the invitation to fill them with abundance.
Dig In! Yancey Community Garden works within our community in Yancey County to grow and share from our gardens so that everyone can eat well. Our garden is a hands-on learning site to teach, inspire, and empower people in Yancey County to grow their own food, and all of the food grown at the garden is shared directly with the community. Our collaborative food sharing programs serve hundreds of families each week.
Our Empty Bowls event is on Friday, October 6, 2023 at the Burnsville Town Center. Check our website (diginyancey.org) and social media for more information.
Please donate one or many bowls/mugs/vases of any material: ceramic, wood, glass, stone, etc. Generally, the bowls are soup-sized, but larger bowls are happily accepted to sell or auction for a higher price. We have also had fiber, handmade books, and metal items in the past.
We invite you to place your business card in each bowl so that the final recipient can know who to appreciate and admire for all the years to come!
