Malcolm's Shino Fired at Cone 6


This is just Malcolm's Shino on porcelain, fired in heavy cone 6 reduction. One coat at specific gravity 130 and then wax was applied.

40.90 Nepheline Syenite
9.80 Kona F- 4 Feldspar
18.20 EPK Kaolin
13.80 Kentucky Ball Clay
17.30 Soda Ash

6.00 Red Art (Optional )

i tested this glaze in Kari's kiln, i didn't get that beautiful result!!! it came out rough!!!!! it didn't look anything like that!!!!!!!

quick question on the Malcolm Davis shino recipe - Kona F-4 - can NC-4 be substituted, if not are you still able to get Kona F-4 in Spruce Pine?

Should work at cone 6 single fire.

Hello John. I mixed up a batch of this using the recipe in your cone 10 book. At a specific gravity of 25 this is super watery. Is it supposed to be so thin or is my reading off? It also separates quite readily. Is that common?

How many coats is common for this glaze?

Should be 125 grams per 100 ml.Sp.gr. is 125 not 25. About skim milk or 2%.....
